“ Johnny has inspiration to stay optimistic through the rest of his medical treatments ”

It’s loud, it’s fast and it’s ready to take him to the victory lane. Eleven-year-old Johnny sits inside NASCAR champion, Jeff Gordon’s, #24 race car.

Born premature, Johnny underwent a double lung transplant when he was only 10 months old. Today, he still receives treatments to stay healthy. This wish kid has a long race ahead of him, so Make-A-Wish® volunteers, donors and Jeff Gordon were happy to uplift Johnny with some hope and strength for the road.

Upon meeting his icon, Gordon inducts Johnny as honorary crew chief for the day giving him a tour of the Hendrick Motorsports Garage – including the victorious #24 car. Gordon ignites the engine so Johnny can hear the roar that makes it go so fast. Johnny receives plenty of souvenirs to commemorate his day complete with an autograph.

Then he’s off to watch his first-ever live NASCAR event as Gordon takes the track during the Coca-Cola 600.

A live witness to the speed and power of the racecars and its drivers, Johnny has inspiration to stay optimistic through the rest of his medical treatments.

Off the track, Gordon seeks to help children and their families gain their own victories over chronic and often debilitating illnesses through the work of The Jeff Gordon Foundation. Established in 1999, it primarily provides support for their designated charities, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society®, Make-A-Wish®, Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, Indiana, The Marrow Foundation® and Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord, N.C.
